When it comes to skincare ingredients, few offer up as much nourishment as an oil. Whether it’s from plants, nuts or seeds, they’re typically full of essential fatty acids, antioxidants and vitamins, all of which equate to a healthy, vibrant complexion.
Today we’re talking about Sea Buckthorn oil specifically, an ingredient that’s been around for a while but is predicted to gain serious traction in 2021. Sea Buckthorn comes as a tiny golden berry, and is lauded for its high concentrations of vitamin C, unsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E and carotenoids. Basically, if your skin is dry, dull, inflamed or showing signs of ageing, this ingredient should certainly be on your radar.

According to Ipsum Skin founder Janet Hayward, the Sea Buckthorn fortifies the complexion thanks to a powerful combination of skin-loving omegas (3,6,9, and the less-common omega-7) together with vitamins B1, B2, K, C, A, and E. It’s also full of antioxidants to aid skin healing, and rejuvenation, leaving it smooth, healthy and plump.
Body oils can feel greasy, but this pick from Weleda is anything but. Light and nourishing, it glides over limbs with ease, providing serious nourishment and a lovely glow. It contains sesame oil too for an extra kick.
Those who favour a radiant complexion will love this oil-serum hybrid from May Lindstrom. A blend of 20 plant oils (including Sea Buckthorn, Rosehip and Pomegranate) it reduces inflammation and floods the skin with nutrients, resulting in a face that’s clear, bright and supple.
Sea Buckthorn, Hyaluronic Acid and Davidson Plum makeup this silken face moisturiser. While the texture is light, it still packs a punch in terms of moisture. It makes a great day cream or base for makeup, too.
